Hilary Mason
Chief Scientist

Hilary Mason is the Chief Scientist at bitly. bitly is the company whose link-shortening service facilitates sharing across Twitter, Facebook, and many other social media platforms. bitly links are shared tens of millions of times a day, with hundreds of millions of clicks per day; they’ve shortened tens of billions of URLs in the company’s lifetime. That’s a lot of data.

As Chief Scientist, Hilary sifts through the records of these clicks to find patterns. She can show you what time of day people use their desktops versus their tablets; she can explain how social media usage was shaped by the Arab Spring.

She can tell you, if people visit your website, what other pages they’re probably looking at. Hilary is also a member of NYCResistor and Mayor Bloomberg’s Technology and Innovation Advisory Council. Hilary’s experience working in depth with this unique data set allows her to speak about the challenges and the rewards of working with big data, with a special focus on machine learning. She is a charming speaker with who resonates with tech and nonspecialist audiences.

Peter Skomoroch
Principal Data Scientist

Pete Skomoroch is a Principal Data Scientist at LinkedIn where he leads a team focused on reputation systems, network analysis, and data driven products like LinkedIn Skills & Endorsements. Before joining LinkedIn, he was the Director of Advanced Analytics at Juice Analytics and a Senior Research Engineer at AOL Search. Prior to AOL, he implemented pattern detection algorithms for Biodefense projects at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and developed pricing models for retailers at ProfitLogic. Pete has a B.S. in Mathematics and Physics from Brandeis University.

Steve Rowe
Lucene/Solr Committer and PMC Chair

Steve Rowe is Chair of the Lucene/Solr PMC. He earned his BS in Computer Science from Syracuse University. For ten years, Steve worked on Information Retrieval and NLP research projects at the Center for Natural Language Processing at Syracuse University's iSchool.

Yonik Seeley
Lucene/Solr Committer and PMC member,Co-founder

Yonik Seeley is the creator of Solr. He is an expert in distributed search systems architecture and performance. Yonik has been a prolific Lucene/Solr committer, a member of the Lucene/Solr PMC, and a member of the Apache Software Foundation. Yonik’s work experience includes CNET Networks, BEA and Telcordia. He earned his M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University.

Paul Doscher
